Your data stays on your computer

Better Vest is a Chrome extension I make by myself. The extension has no server, no account and no analytics. I never receive your data, and neither does anyone else. This page says exactly what it keeps and what it sends.

What it keeps, on your computer only

  • Your settings: sizes, hotkeys, theme, voice, limits and the rest, in your browser’s storage on Vest’s page and in the extension.
  • Your limits and locks: today’s numbers for the daily loss and profit limits, the tilt guard and your own locks, per account, so a reload can’t lift them.
  • Your journal: the trades, payouts and notes the Calendar shows, in the extension’s own storage.
  • Recorded prices: the price of the market on screen, second by second, while Vest is open, for the P&L card’s replay. Anything older than 30 days is deleted. You can turn it off in Settings, More, P&L card.
  • Your P&L card’s picture: the image or GIF you pick as a background, and your card choices.
  • The copy trader’s log, if you use it: what was copied and when, for its own window.
  • Update checks: when it last looked for a new version, and the last answer.

Uninstalling Better Vest removes everything it kept in the extension. Settings it keeps on Vest’s page go when you clear that site’s data in Chrome.

What it reads

  • Vest’s page: prices, your positions and orders as Vest shows them, so it can draw them and act on your clicks.
  • Your trading history from Vest: the Calendar, the limits and the payout card read your own positions and payouts with read-only requests, from Vest’s page and the session you are already logged in with. They never change anything.

It never reads, keeps or sends your password, your login tokens or your wallet keys.

What it sends

  • To Vest: only what Vest’s own page sends when you trade. Orders go through Vest’s own ticket and its own code, the way you would place them by hand.
  • To GitHub: a check for a new release (api.github.com), and when you update, the new files (raw.githubusercontent.com). These requests carry no data about you or your trading.
  • To anyone else: nothing. The voice clips and the news calendar ship inside the extension; nothing is looked up online.

Permissions

Better Vest asks for three Chrome permissions and access to Vest’s site only:

  • storage: to keep your settings and your journal.
  • alarms: to check for updates now and then, and to look after the copy trader’s helper tabs.
  • tabGroups: to keep the copy trader’s and multi-chart’s helper tabs in one folded group.
  • next.vestmarkets.com: the only site it runs on.

This website

This site counts its visits with Vercel Web Analytics, so I can see how many people come by. It sees which page was opened, the site that linked here, the country, and the kind of browser and device, and I only ever see totals. It sets no cookies and keeps nothing that says who you are: a visit is told apart from the next one for a day at most. This is about the website only. The extension itself sends nothing.
